Extract a still image from any moment in a video without relying on a playback screenshot or uploading the recording. The visual frame selector connects the video preview, timeline marker, keyboard controls, and exact timestamp input, making it easier to find the moment you need.

Find the right frame visually

Play the source video and pause near the desired moment, or drag the blue marker across the timeline. The selected timestamp follows video playback, and changing the marker seeks the preview to that position. For small corrections, focus the marker and press the left or right arrow key. Hold Shift to move in larger steps, or enter a decimal timestamp directly.

This workflow is useful for creating thumbnails, saving a slide from a presentation recording, documenting an interface state, extracting a reference image, or capturing a memorable frame from personal footage. Unlike an operating-system screenshot, the exported image uses the decoded source frame and does not include playback controls or other page elements.

Export as PNG or JPEG

Choose PNG when you want lossless output, sharp text, or graphics with hard edges. Choose JPEG when a smaller file is more important and the frame mainly contains photographic detail. The tool preserves the source video dimensions because no scaling filter is applied during extraction.

The final endpoint of a media file usually sits just after its last decodable frame. To prevent an empty result, the selector keeps the timestamp slightly inside the playable duration when you move it to the far right.

Local and private frame extraction

Frame extraction runs with FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Your video is read from the local browser File object, written to a temporary in-memory file system, and removed after processing. The generated PNG or JPEG is represented by a temporary Blob URL for preview and download.

No source media is uploaded to our servers. Processing time depends on how far FFmpeg needs to seek into the file, the video codec, and your device. If processing takes too long, use Cancel, choose another timestamp, and try again without refreshing the page.
